How does Anti-Wrinkle Treatment work?
Anti-wrinkle treatment, also known as botulinum toxin treatment, is a popular and effective way to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The active ingredient in this treatment is botulinum toxin, a naturally occurring protein that works by blocking the chemical messages that cause muscles to contract. As a result, the targeted muscle relaxes and remains "rested" for about 8-12 weeks.
It is important to note that botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medication that must be administered by a medical professional, such as a doctor, dentist, nurse prescriber, or prescribing pharmacist. The only licensed toxin brands in the UK are Azzalure, Bocouture, Botox, Alluzience, Nuceiva and Letybo.
Areas most commonly treated
The most common areas treated with anti-wrinkle treatment are the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes, however most of the face and even your under arms (to reduce sweating) can be treated!
What to expect from the treatment?
After receiving treatment, you can expect to see results starting around day 4-5, with optimal results appearing after about 2 weeks. You will be invited for a review at the 2-3 week mark to assess the effectiveness of the treatment and make any necessary adjustments. This treatment is most effective on dynamic lines (lines that appear when the muscle is moving) rather than static lines, and may require repeat injections over time to achieve the best results.
Who is this treatment best for?
This treatment works best as a preventative measure to stop static wrinkles forming. It works best for people who experience lots of movement in their forehead, frown or crows feet causing dynamic lines.
Aftercare
After the treatment, it is important to follow proper aftercare instructions, such as exercising the treated muscles every 15 minutes for the first hour, avoiding leaning forward for the first 4 hours, and abstaining from alcohol, extreme heat, exercise, and touching or massaging the face for 24 hours.
