Emface for Jaw Tension & Clenching

A non-invasive approach to relieving jaw tension and supporting muscle function

Jaw tension and clenching are extremely common, often without patients realising.

With increased screen time, postural strain and heightened stress levels, many people hold ongoing tension through the jaw. It’s estimated that up to 1 in 3 people experience symptoms such as clenching or tightness.

This can present as:

  • Jaw tension or fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Earache or discomfort around the ear
  • Facial aching or tightness

These symptoms are often linked to overactivity in the muscles of mastication and may present as referred discomfort across the face and head.

How Does It Work?

Emface uses a combination of radiofrequency and HIFES™ (High-Intensity Facial Electrical Stimulation) to target the key muscles involved in jaw function, including:

  • Masseter
  • Temporalis
  • Supporting muscles of mastication

This helps to:

  • Reduce muscle overactivity
  • Support improved muscle function
  • Encourage a more relaxed resting state

The treatment is non-invasive, needle-free and requires no downtime.

What Can It Help With?

This treatment may be beneficial for patients experiencing:

  • Jaw clenching (day or night)
  • Muscle tightness or fatigue in the jaw
  • Tension headaches
  • Earache or facial discomfort linked to muscle tension
  • A feeling of heaviness or tightness in the lower face

How Does This Differ from Botox?

Emface works differently to Botox and may be used either as an alternative or alongside it, depending on your individual needs.

Botox works by relaxing the masseter muscle, helping to reduce muscle activity and tension in that specific area.

Emface, however, works across multiple muscles involved in jaw function, including the masseter and surrounding muscles of mastication. It supports overall muscle activity, coordination and tension patterns within the jaw.

For some patients, this provides a more comprehensive approach to managing jaw tension and clenching.

Can It Be Combined with Botox?

Yes, Emface can be used alongside Botox.

While Botox helps to reduce muscle activity in the masseter, Emface works more broadly to support overall muscle function. This combination can help to improve comfort and may support longer-term management of jaw tension.

Your treatment plan will always be tailored to you, based on your symptoms and preferences.

Treatment Plan

For best results, Emface is performed as a course of treatments.

We typically recommend:

  • 4–6 treatments, carried out once per week

Following your initial course, maintenance is based on your individual symptoms.
For many patients, this may be one treatment every 6 months, although this can vary.

These treatments can also be incorporated into your bespoke membership maintenance plan, allowing for a consistent and structured approach to ongoing care.

Important Information

This treatment is not a medical treatment for TMJ disorder.

However, it may be helpful for patients experiencing muscular tension, clenching or fatigue in the jaw area.

If you have a diagnosed TMJ condition or more significant symptoms, we recommend seeking advice from your dentist or healthcare provider alongside any aesthetic treatment.
